Twitter is one of the most popular social networks out there today, and is my personal favourite for connecting with people.  Today I want to teach you how to DOUBLE your amount of REAL, genuine Twitter followers.

As of today, I have about 5,000 followers on my personal Twitter account.  One might suggest that I have purchased fake followers to inflate my numbers, but no; I urge you to go through my followers and find that they are 100% real people who use Twitter on a daily basis. (If you want to buy followers, just message me and I can help you out with that).

I want to start out by saying that Twitter is not a public popularity contest, so you don’t need to feel discouraged if you’re… well, unpopular.  Though, you may feel that your creative writing is simply wasted energy if nobody is there to listen -a legitimate concern.

Here are the steps to doubling your following:

1.  Change your bio - No one cares that you’re a founding member of some club that no one has ever heard of.  Your bio should reflect who you are, but should also give the reader a reason to want to follow you.

2.  Add a photo, header and background - Your profile photo should clearly show who you are.  People don’t tend to trust strangers on the internet, so don’t hide; show them your face, show them your eyes!  Add a header photo and background that show a mix of your personality and the theme of your Twitter account.

3. Twitter Links - Put them everywhere… I mean, EVERYWHERE!  If you have a website, put a link in the header.  If you write blogs, have a link to your Twitter handle in the bio… and in your email signature, and on your business card, etc.  Get the word out there that you’re on Twitter!

4.  Be authentic - Don’t use bots that automatically reply and retweet for you.  Don’t post tweets that are only for the sake of growing your following (example: I’ll follow you if you follow me #FollowBack).  Be yourself and speak from your heart.

5.  Get social –  After all, this is called “SOCIAL media”.  Talk to people and get to know them!  I’ve made friends on Twitter and I love talking with my followers!  That’s part of what keeps my following list so authentic; I reach out and connect with people.  If you and I haven’t conversed on Twitter yet, don’t be shy, be social! :)

If someone (not suspicious looking) follows you, follow them back.  While you’re at it, reach out and thank them!  But don’t flood your twitter timeline with countless “thank you” messages.  Feel free to follow like-minded people and publicly converse with them.

6.  Patience - Give it some time.  Follow the steps that I’ve listed above and your following WILL double, I promise!

It took me about a month to grow my following from around 500 to 1000.  And now I’m gaining handfuls of new followers every day!

Try the 30-day challenge, only 15 minutes per day!  You can do this on your train commute to work, while you’re watching TV, or when you’re laying in bed falling asleep!

Let me know how it goes… I would love you to share with me your Twitter success stories!

I’m also testing out a web traffic service called Maxvisits at www.maxvisits.com.  The sell web traffic and have the ability to get people to your website.  I’m interested in seeing how they deliver their service; they had fairly reasonable reviews online… now it’s my turn to try them out!

Thanks for taking the time to read this!  Of course, I must ask that you follow me on Twitter @jdellamora ;)
