One of the big question marks of social media today is security.  People sometimes feel like they are vulnerable when they’re on Facebook and that their information is open for the world to see.

I often run into concerns from business owners who have sensitive clientele information and are afraid that starting a Facebook page will jeopardize their clients’ confidentiality.  Clients such as lawyers, psychologists, chiropractors, etc…

I would like to start out by saying, having a Facebook page for your business is a GREAT way to keep in touch with your clients and keep them informed.  Though, when creating a Facebook page, default settings allow all users to see who have liked the page, who have subscribed to the posts, and who have interacted with the business.

This is where concern usually starts to arise, but Facebook has created privacy settings so that this fear can totally be abolished with just a few simple clicks!

After you’ve created your page, click “Edit Page” in the Admin Panel.

Find, and click “Edit Settings

From there, you can sort through and choose settings that allow you to limit the ability of your clients seeing who else belongs to your Facebook page.

After changing around a few settings to your discretion,  your clients can now like your page in total confidentiality!  They may ask personal questions and these questions will be sent to you in a private dialog box so that no one can read these messages but you!

It is important that you ensure that these privacy settings are turned ON and adjusted appropriately for your business needs. You must let your clients know that they can feel comfortable about subscribing to your page without any sensitive information being released.

Again, I strongly recommend having Facebook for your business.  Make sure to mix in the 4 E’s of Social Media and you’ll be on your way in no time.  Facebook is a very powerful marketing tool and can make communication with your clients more seamless than ever!
